The abundantly concrete building located at Jõeoti Street was completed in this particular form thanks to effective cooperation between the architects and the client as well as the client`s readiness to suggest solutions that at first seemed impossible or non-traditional. This project was also a great challenge for the architect. As a result, a building was created that takes into account the family’s lifestyle and traditions, and is adapted to a sophisticated architectural environment where every detail is well thought-through.
The L-shaped building comprises two functional units – a two-storey block, parallel to the street, housing rooms for daytime use (kitchen-living room, office) and several rooms for ancillary use on the ground floor, with bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor. The one-storey block, perpendicular to the street, has a sauna with a kitchen nook and a recreational room. These two parts of the house have been designed so that sufficient isolation can be created, if necessary, and the one-storey part can be used as a guesthouse.
A recognisable feature of the building is the extensive use of concrete – the exterior walls of the building are of concrete in two different tonalities that create an interesting rhythm and contrast with alternating glass surfaces; light concrete enhances the light indoors and serves as a good background for other interior design elements without making the house seem clinical or harsh looking. The keywords characterising the indoors are vast expense and good lighting that the plastic stretch ceiling, adding visual height to the room, helps intensify; in addition there is the light finishing, the thought-through location of openings and a fully glass staircase, functioning as a light well, which the residents may take time to get used to. Openness is especially enhanced in warm weather when it is possible to open the windows of the living room and the gallery, which are as high as the room, and tie together the indoors and the garden with tall pine trees.
The design of the building allows for several views through the building, which creates an excellent relationship with the greenery surrounding the building. More information about the building can be found here – LINK.
The concrete elements and products of E-betoonelement OÜ were used in the exterior and load bearing walls of the building.
